The Deep-Truth Method™

Technique can support expression. It can also take responsibility for the performer, leaving a scene carefully executed while its relationship ceases to develop. The Deep-Truth Method™ examines that promise of safety and its cost. The work begins with what is happening between performers now: what is heard, what changes and what demands a response.

Relationship comes before character. A monologue is still a dialogue because action and speech remain in a continuum of feedback. The performer observes habits in breath, speech and movement, and distinguishes a living response from a form applied in advance. From the relationship, character becomes visible.

Tools and axes

• Reverse Dramaturgy. The central exercise of this work reveals character through relationship. Controlled verbal overlap reduces reaction time as performers listen and respond within the same instant.
• Architecture of Relationships. A living axis develops between performers in real time. It reveals the relationship first and, through that relationship, the characters.
• Architecture of Sound. Speech has direction, distance, width and depth. The performer places words in space, working with what comes forward, what recedes, and how pause and silence make room for meaning.
• Grammar as musicality. Grammar and syntax disclose the score already present in the text. Etymology returns words to their roots, allowing sound, meaning and address to move together in speech.
• Native and acquired behavior. Self-observation reveals repeated patterns in breath, speech and movement. Technique can strengthen instinct; predetermined traits can cover the performer's own source of expression.
• Forced Oscillation. Action and speech exert influence between performers. The oscillating system is their developing relationship, which can move toward resonance through continuous feedback.
• Synthesis out of comfort zone. Comfort is also healthy. This inquiry focuses on familiar patterns that obstruct expression. Breath, attention and the need of the present work give synthesis its starting point. Until freedom becomes the only comfort zone.

Surgical and cosmetic dramaturgy asks whether a correction reaches a structural cause or only changes the surface. Forced Dramaturgy examines structures kept in place by effort rather than necessity. These questions extend from performance into the wider inquiry of the forthcoming What Is Missing?
